Overtime Calculator Nevada

Nevada has two overtime tracks: earn under $18 an hour and overtime starts after 8 hours in a day; earn $18 or more and only the 40 hour weekly rule applies. Enter your rate and hours day by day. The calculator picks the right track automatically. Minimum wage is $12.00 in 2026.

How overtime works in Nevada

1 · The $18.00 threshold

Nevada law gives daily overtime to employees earning less than 1.5 times the $12.00 minimum wage, which is $18.00 an hour in 2026. Under that line, hours over 8 in a 24 hour period earn 1.5x. At $18.00 or more, the daily trigger switches off.

2 · Weekly overtime for everyone

Every nonexempt Nevada employee earns 1.5 times the regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek, whatever the hourly rate. The weekly rule is the backstop behind the daily rule.

3 · The $12.00 minimum wage

A 2022 constitutional amendment set a single $12.00 rate from July 1, 2024, with no tip credit and no inflation indexing. Tipped workers, including casino staff, earn the full $12.00 before tips.

The Nevada formula
Under $18/hr: overtime hours = hours over 8 in a day + straight time hours over 40 in the week. At $18/hr or more: overtime hours = hours over 40 in the week. Gross = (regular hours × rate) + (overtime hours × rate × 1.5)

Nevada specifics worth knowing

The workday is 24 hours from your shift start. Under NRS 608.0126, a workday is a rolling 24 hour period beginning when you clock in, not midnight to midnight. Overnight casino and hospitality shifts are measured from the actual start time.

A 4 day 10 hour schedule can waive the daily rule. If you and your employer mutually agree to four 10 hour days, hours 9 and 10 do not trigger daily overtime. The agreement must be mutual; the employer cannot impose it.

No Nevada state income tax. Overtime premium is reduced only by federal taxes, which matters in a state where hospitality overtime is a way of life.

For a state with daily overtime for everyone, see the Alaska overtime calculator. The federal baseline is explained in the FLSA overtime rules guide.

Common mistakes

Mistake 1: Applying daily overtime to $18 an hour workers. The daily trigger applies only below $18.00 an hour. At exactly $18.00 or more, only the 40 hour weekly rule applies.
Mistake 2: Counting a calendar day instead of the workday. Nevada measures the 8 hour day across a rolling 24 hours from shift start. Splitting an overnight shift at midnight to dodge the trigger does not work.
Mistake 3: Assuming a tip credit lowers tipped pay. Nevada has no tip credit. Servers, bartenders and dealers earn the full $12.00 an hour in wages, plus tips.
Mistake 4: Forgetting the 4/10 exception. A mutual agreement to work four 10 hour days waives daily overtime for hours 9 and 10. Without that agreement, those hours earn 1.5x for sub $18 workers.

Frequently asked questions

Who gets daily overtime in Nevada?

Employees earning less than $18.00 an hour, which is 1.5 times the $12.00 minimum wage. They earn 1.5x for hours over 8 in a 24 hour period, plus the weekly 40 hour rule.

$12.00 an hour for all employees, with no tip credit. The rate has been flat since July 1, 2024 and has no scheduled increase.
